These guests are offering their own thoughts. Here are brief biographies of each in the order they appear in the episode.
Reid Gomez
Dr. Gomez is a dreamer, a poet, and a scholar who puts the land at the center of all she does.


Alan Weisman
Mr. Weisman is a journalist and award-winning author. His most recent book Hope Dies Last has just been released.
Rux Guidi
Ruxandra Guidi is a journalist, podcaster, and activist. Rux has been telling stories for more than two decades. Her research, reporting and writing for public radio, podcasts and magazines have taken her throughout the United States, the Caribbean, South and Central America, as well as Mexico and the U.S.-Mexico border region. She is also the producer of this podcast.


Stephen Pyne
Dr. Pyne is a historian of fire. He is professor emeritus at Arizona State University and he is world renown as one of the foremost experts on what he calls the pyrocene.
Sarah King
Ms. King is the Executive Director of the Altar Valley Conservation Alliance.** She joined the Altar Valley Conservation Alliance staff team in 2011 as the Community Outreach and Education Coordinator, and also served as the Alliance’s Program Director for several years. Sarah lives in the Altar Valley, where she lives and works on the King’s Anvil Ranch, with her husband, Joe. They have two kids, who are the 5th generation to live on the Anvil Ranch, which was founded in 1895.
